Ghana and Mali will today play for the third place in the ongoing African Youth Championship after they were both knocked out by Nigeria and host nation Senegal respectively in the semi-final.
But even before the kick off this evening at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor, Mali Coach Fanyeri Diarra is not enthusiastic. To him it is all over for Mali.
“My objective was not to win the third place match but the trophy. We have been working very hard and our hopes were high. But it’s all over. I’m very disappointed going home without the cup,” Diarra told the media after the semi-final match against Senegal.
Mali are the surprise package of the tournament. They won all three group matches, claiming the highest point, nine, from the group stage.
Ghana on the other hand beat South Africa and Zambia and lost to Nigeria in their final group match.
