Why I lost to Banku last year- Ayittey Powers speaks ahead of rematch

Veteran boxer Michael Ayittey Powers Okine has for the first time admitted that he committed a big error which made him lost his first encounter with Braimah Kamoko alias Bukom Banku at the Accra stadium last year.

According to him during the bout which was fought last year May, the strategy he adopted ensured his opponent took an undue advantage of him.

But he vowed not to repeat same in their upcoming bout on December 26 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Powers, 38, who has won his last three bouts since losing to Banku, reiterated his pledge that he would never lose twice to the 34-year-old Bukom fighter.

At a final press conference in Accra yesterday at the Accra Stadium, Banku was conspicuously absent. This was explained away by bout promoters as a deliberate attempt to keep boxers away from each other.

But insiders informed the Graphic Sports the boxer is asking for postponement of the fight for fear of losing to his dreaded opponent.

Bout Promoter, Anthony Kermah noted all is on course for the fight. He dismissed suggestions that sponsors of the fight, Joy Dadi have thrown their behind weight Powers.

The CEO of Joy Dadi, Dr Takyi Manfred, stated that his outfit was committed towards the bout and added that the bout would come on December 26 as scheduled.

He dismissed suggestions that his outfit was favouring a particular boxer and added that Joy Dadi believed in professionalism and objectivity.

On the bill on the night will be seven other interesting bouts. A WBO Africa featherweight Championship will be between Isaac Dogboe and George Krampah.

Former national champion Maxwell Awuku will clash with Justin Savi of Benin in an International Super-featherweight contest while Malik Jabir faces Fattiou Fassenu of Benin for an international featherweight title.

A super-middleweight contest will be between Habib Ahmed and Kwesi Tutu with Samuel kofi Tetteh Antwi taking on Mohammed Odartey lamptey.

Obodae Sai takes on Stephen Addy in a middleweight contest and Sheriif Quaye challenges Nana Brenya in a Lightweight contest.
