Kwasi Ofori Asare urges Dogboe to remain focused

Black Bombers trainer, Kwasi Ofori Asare, has urged former WBO super bantamweight champion, Isaac Dogboe, to have a seeking mind and learn more to become a world champion again after his win over America’s Chris Avalos.

Dogboe came off back-to-back losses to Emanuel Navarrete to stop Avalos with 35 seconds remaining in their eight-round featherweight bout inside the bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

In an interview with Graphic Sports last Thursday, Coach Asare stressed that Dogboe needed not to worry about the unfortunate loss of the WBO super bantamweight title to Navarrete, but should rather be inspired and take that setback as a learning process from an experienced boxer to help him conquer the world again.

“He did what he was supposed to do to win the fight. I enjoyed his calmness and how he took his time until he knocked him (Avalos) out. At least, this win will give him some relief in his subsequent bouts and I believe he will become a world champion again.

“There is no boxer who doesn’t have a shortcoming. That loss was unfortunate so he must forget about it and have a focus by taking his lessons right anytime an opponent is in front of him. He has a lot of experience and if he continues as he did, he will conquer the world again,” the veteran coach emphasised.

“Dogboe must have a seeking mind and learn more because knowledge doesn’t have a limit. He must continue tapping knowledge since he’s still young to help him make all his desires happen,” he said.

He further cautioned Dogboe that before he could accomplish the task ahead of him, he ought to work hard, be disciplined, focused and determined before he could get to where he wanted to be as a fighter.

He also advised Dogboe’s new trainer, Barry Hunter, not to be complacent about the win but rather implement a strategic plan by studying him (Dogboe) well and enforce him to take his lessons right so he could make the champion, champion again.

Dogboe, 25, has improved his record to 23 fights with two defeats and a 15th career knockout, as well as ending a two-bout losing streak in his first fight in 14 months.

The last time the Ghanaian boxer fought was against Emanuel Navarrete who stopped him in the 12th round of their WBO junior featherweight championship rematch in May 2019.
