Isaac Quaye gets C’wealth title chance

 

Commonwealth flyweight contender, Isaac Quaye, is set to take on champion, Kevin Satchell, of the United Kingdom(UK) on Saturday, March 1 at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside in the UK.

It will be the first international encounter for the Ghanaian after fighting Namibian Abmerk Shindjuu in the final eliminator for the Commonwealth flyweight title.

The Bukom lad, popularly known as “Pretty Boy Junior,’ among his fans, has begun feverish preparations for the bout, pitching camp in neighbouring Togo in his quest to annex the nation’s first ever Commonwealth flyweight title.

Also known  as the ‘Bukom Warrior’, Quaye told the  Graphic Sports he was upbeat about his chances while appealing for the support and prayers of all Ghanaians to make the nation proud.

The fight, which has been sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control and promoted by Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, is being supervised by match-maker, Jason McClory.

The Ghanaian has fought 30 times, won 25, including 16 knockouts, lost four and drew one, while his opponent ,Satchell, 25, has fought 11 times and won all, including two knockouts.

Rexford Akosah and Richard Ashie Neequaye, both trainers of the boxer, are optimistic about their ward’s  chances, having guided him through some tough and rigorous training to keep him in shape for the bout.
