GBF overturns Jonathan Tetteh's win against Shakul Samed : Fight to be staged again

THE Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has declared as no contest the light-heavyweight bout involving Olympian Shakul Samed and Jonathan Tetteh at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Friday in the individual National Amateur Boxing Championship final at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Friday night.

The GBF President, Bernard Quartey, told the Daily Graphic exclusively that it was wrong to declare Tetteh as winner on points (4-3) after his supporters held the referee and the judges to ransom, threatening to harm them if their boxer did not get a favourable verdict.

He said that federation would announce a new date for the bout to be staged again, as part of selection for Ghana's team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK).

“They broke the barricades and besieged the three judges and the referee, saying that they were going to harm them if they didn’t declare Tetteh as the winner. That is why we are declaring that particular bout as a no contest,” Mr Quartey explained.

He pledged to ensure that the sport was rid of troublemakers to make it safe and attractive to young boxers and the public.

Meanwhile, 30 amateur boxers, including females chosen from the championship, will begin a non-residential camping later this month as part of selection into the national team.

According to the GBF boss, there would be a trial to select the best among the 30 boxers who would become the new Black Bombers team.
