Consequently, the GBA has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the bizarre end of the WBC Youth welterweight interim title fight between Frank Dodze and Nasreddine Dahou of Algerian, which took place at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Ghanaian boxer’s corner supposedly threw in the towel even when the Algerian was yet to recover from a knockdown as he sprawled on the canvas.

It was a bizarre end to an entertaining fight, and many at ring side question what could have necessitated the throw of the towel from the Ghanaian’s corner.

In a statement by its president, Peter Zwennes, the GBA said it shared “the outrage and concern of boxing fans who witnessed the fight, particularly the incredible spectacle which unfolded when the Ghanaian boxer who had knocked down his Algerian opponent rather had the towel thrown from his own corner to give his fallen opponent an underserved win”.

“The GBA wishes to assure boxing fans and the boxing fraternity in general that it will not encourage or condone any such fixed contests or fights of convenience which tend not only to ridicule the sport but also scandalise it and bring it into gross disrepute.

“In this regard any person found culpable in the aftermath of the investigation will be appropriately sanctioned.

“Meanwhile, pending the outcome of the investigations the licences of the boxer Frank Dodze, his chief second Robert Okine, and the promoter/matchmaker of the fight Solomon Otoo Lartey have been suspended indefinitely,” the statement concluded.
