Filipino dares Dogboe

Filipino boxer, Niel John Tabanao, has promised to give Ghanaian WBO Africa featherweight title holder, Isaac Dogboe a great fight when they go into battle on Friday at the Police Officers’ Social and Fitness Centre in Accra in a unification bout.

Dogboe, popularly known as "Royal Storm", on his part promised fireworks against his Filipino opponent despite admitting that the bout would be a tough one.

Tabanao, the WBO Oriental (OPBF) featherweight champion who holds a record of 13 wins in 14 bouts with just one defeat, arrived in the country yesterday to challenge undefeated Dogboe for the WBC Youth World Featherweight Championship.

The to boxers came face to face at a press conference held live on GTV Sport+, with Tabanao saying: "I expect the entire country to be against me but I am ready to give Isaac a tough fight on Friday."

Dogboe, who boasts of 13 wins in 13 bouts, noted that the fight was going to be tough but promised fireworks in the ring.

"As the saying goes, there is a soldier in every land you go, I am a soldier in my own land," he added.

However, the spokesperson for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Naa Darkua Dodoo, reiterated her outfit's support to the bout and urged the Ghanaian to win to make the nation proud.

The bout which is dubbed "Africa vs Asia" is being promoted by the Aborigines Beach Resort Promotions in collaboration with Rising Stars Africa Promotions.

There will be three belts up for grabs, including the vacant WBC World Youth Championship title.

According to the organisers of the bout, the rate for the VVIP stand has been reduced from GH¢1,000 to GH¢500; VIP stand from GH¢500 to GH¢300 but the Popular Stand remains GH¢30.
