Father: Awinongya Jnr will become world champion

Joseph Awinongya Snr, father and trainer of Ghana-American juvenile boxer, Joseph Awinongya Jnr, is optimistic his son will become a world champion and rule for long.

Awinongya Snr is looking forward to guiding his son through his amateur career to the professional ranks where he believes he would realise his dream of winning a world title.

World title hopes

At age 13, Awinongya Jnr is on course towards making a significant impact on the world of boxing, having achieved so much at a very tender age.

The father, who has led the young boxer to win several titles in the US, told Daily Graphic that he was bent on utilising Awinongya Jnr’s talent to enable to him to achieve greater heights in the sport.

This, he said, must start from the Olympic Games to the world title when he turns professional.

Great talent

“Looking at my son, you can see a great talent in a young boy who is determined to make an impact in a fistic sport like boxing,” he noted.

“It is my duty to lead him through these steps to enable him to get to the top. I am hopeful he would achieve the ultimate looking at his talent and focus,” he added.

Achievements

Awinongya Jnr is top rated in the 90lbs and 95lbs divisions in America, having won all competitions he had competed in since deciding to be a boxer at age five.

He has won many competitions such as three-time Silver Gloves National Champ, USA National Champion, two-time Jnr Olympic National Champion, Western Elite Qualifier National Champion, two-time St Louis National Champion, King of the Jungle National Champion, Wisconsin National Champion, and Power Gloves National Champion.
