Cricket: National coach worried over inactivity by players

The coach of Ghana’s male cricket team, Kodam Kofi Anefie, says his players are getting themselves together to bounce back when the suspension of sporting activities is lifted.

The players, he said, had been engaging in individual training at home just to keep fit and were eager to get back to action when organised competitions returned.

Ghana was to participate in  the T20 Africa Cup finals in Kenya in March but the competition was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has disrupted the world’s sporting calendar.
Coach Anefie told the Daily Graphic that the many weeks of inactivity had affected the players both physically and psychologically due to the uncertainty over the return of organised sports.

“The COVID-19 has affected the team, their body language and reaction show it has affected them psychologically and emotionally, when I talk to them. However, since it is a global pandemic we are trying to get ourselves together as soon as the public gathering is over so that we can bounce back to full scale training.”

He explained that to ensure coordinated and efficient training, a WhatsApp platform had been set up where players would upload recorded training of themselves for assessment by the coach.
