Banku returns May 3

Ghana boxing’s show boy, Braimah ‘Bukom Banku’ Kamoko, returns to action in Accra early next month on a bill that has a female world championship bout as one of seven fights.

The undefeated Banku, still close to realising his full potential as his managers push for a world title chance, will fight George Tevdorashvili of Georgia in a 10-round international cruiserweight contest at the Accra Stadium on Friday, May 3.

After 25 fights, Banku’s record remains a perfect one without even a draw, but when he was flawed by Hamza Wandera at the Accra Stadium in February last year, it was thought he was vulnerable after all.

But two more victories via knockouts restored his pedigree, while the refusal of world title contenders to face him established his fearsome credentials among the world class.

On May 3, Tevdorashvili will be the next to test the 32-year-old’s character in the main bout of GoldenMike Promotions’ bill.

In a special feature, female world title contender Helen Joseph will fight Malianna Gulyas of Hungary for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-continental female featherweight title.

But the highlight of the night will be the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa super-lightweight title fight between local foes Albert Mensah and Ben Odametey.

Samir Brothers, Bastie and Issah, will fight Ademola Faniyi of Nigeria and Robison Omsarashvili of Georgia respectively, while Samuel Amoako fights Tafik Bisuga and Joshua Okine takes on Alaba Okusote in other bouts.
