Millennium Marathon kicks off

The deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah has called on the youth to take the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Millennium Marathon slated for September 5 at the Independence Square.According to him the race would put Ghana on the international pedestal and afford us the privilege of hosting more international major competitions.A registration for competition begins on August 29 and ends September 4 at the Aviation Social Centre.

Meanwhile the organizer’s have announced a brand new Peugeot for the male and female winners of the 21km competition.

The marathon starts from the Independence Square through the Labadi beach and past by the El-Wake Sports Stadium down to the National Theatre and then to the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to the High Street and back to the Independence Square.

Another 5km mini-marathon will be staged alongside the competition. Dubbed the Ambassadorial and Family Run will involve both jogging and walking and also begins at the Independence Square at 7:15am.

The men’s winner will receive GH5000 and the women’s winner takes GHC2, 500 with Adidas products and mobile phones.

Organisers have pledged adequate security and ambulance services for the event. There will be a planned entertainment concert to promote the race while the event is billed to attract the international media.
