Bolt does it in style, reclaims 100m title at World Champs

Usain BoltUsain Bolt once again proved he is the best ever after winning an incredible sixth World Championship gold medal with victory in the 100m final in Moscow yesterday. The victory also helped him to regain the 100m world title he lost two years ago.

The sprint king won the race in a winning time of 9.77s, ahead of American Justin Gatlin and fellow Jamaican Nesta Carter in third.

The Olympic champion, 26, powered past American Justin Gatlin, who took silver in 9.85 ahead of Jamaican Nesta Carter (9.95).

Bolt was the hot favourite for the title in the absence of the injured 2011 winner Yohan Blake and the 2007 champion Tyson Gay, who announced last month he had failed a dope test.

The Jamaican had sauntered into the final earlier in the evening in a time of 9.92sec, although his compatriot Nickel Ashmeade was the fastest qualifier in 9.90.

Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia won the women's 10,000 metres Sunday at the world championships, making her move with about 500 metres to go and quickly pulling away from the rest of the pack.

Dibaba won in 30 minutes, 43.35 seconds. Gladys Cherono of Kenya took silver and Belaynesh Oljira of Ethiopia won bronze.

Hitomi Niiya of Japan set the pace for much of the race, but Dibaba blew past her just before the bell lap and was never troubled again.

Dibaba, a two-time Olympic champion at the 10,000m, won the world title for the third time but first since 2007.
