As part of the campaign, a four-hour clean-up exercise has been undertaken at Wusorkrom.

Residents of Worsorkrom were joined by others from Batanya, Mpreduro and Amoana to clear the community of weeds, sweep and dispose of refuse.

Filth

Speaking to the media at the launch, the District Chief Executive Officer for AAK, Willyevans Obiri Awuah, said the exercise would help the communities get rid of filth, which remained an underlying cause of many diseases.

He said the exercise which was carried out at Wusorkrom would not be a one-day event, but the community would compete with the cleanest communities in the region, including Assin Kushia in Assin North District.

He stated that the assembly had set aside every last Friday of the month to undertake clean-up exercises in the district, saying that the assembly with its partner COA group hoped to ensure that targeted communities became model communities in terms of sanitation as that was the roadmap towards keeping the community clean.

Caution

He urged the indigenes to ensure the proper disposal of filth and to desist from indiscriminate disposal of refuse, warning that the assembly would enforce laws to deal with offenders.

The President General, Centre of Awareness Global Peace Mission (COA-GPM) and Centre of Awareness Research and Manufacturing Company Limited (COA-RMCL), Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan, stated that his firm was committed to supporting the exercise.

He entreated the communities to make use of the bins situated at vantage points around the communities and desist from littering around to keep the surroundings clean.

The District Coordinating Director, Dr John Nunyan, said committees would be put in place to ensure the district achieved a model clean community.
He commended Prof. Duncan for supporting the committee with resources for the exercise.

The District Environmental Health Officer, Emmanuel Commey, also advised the community members to ensure they did not fall foul of the sanitation bye-laws.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, a resident of Wusorkrom, Mary Edufa, thanked the organisers for the exercise, saying it would help them prevent illnesses and save them money which otherwise would have been used to seek health care.

Another resident, Andrew Kwesi Atta, said they would commit to making their communities clean.
