He said the December 2012 elections, which were approved by both domestic and international observers, were a testimony to Ghana’s political maturity.

President Yayi was speaking on behalf of African leaders who attended the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice-President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur at the Independence Square in Accra Monday.

The one-and-a-half-hour ceremony, which was full of colour and splendour, attracted 13 Heads of State and 18 delegations from across the world.

The Beninois President urged all political actors and the Ghanaian society in general to remain united and work towards the construction of the country to further consolidate Ghana’s democratic gains.

He expressed the optimism that with the support of Ghanaians, President Mahama would be able to steer the affairs of state and improve the lives of the people.

President Yayi asked God to give President Mahama and Vice-President Amissah-Arthur the wisdom of King Solomon to enable them to steer the affairs of  state diligently.

“On behalf of the people of Benin, I congratulate you on the confidence the people of Ghana reposed in you by electing you to this high office,” he said.
