Voters in Buem assured of smooth bye-election

She, therefore, called on the five contesting parties to verify the seals and serial numbers on the ballot boxes before they could be handed over to the police.

She said the EC had also arranged a two-day training programme for the 336 election officials who would man each of the polling stations, saying the training was scheduled from yesterday, February 24, and today.

 She named the political parties and their parliamentary candidates as the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Daniel Kwasi Asiamah, a 43-year-old marketer; the People's National Convention (PNC), Mr Adams Darko-Boateng, a 29-year-old teacher of the Nurriyah Islamic Basic School at Jasikan; the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Mr Ellis Akoto-Ade, a 63-year-old retired teacher; the National Vision Party (NVP), Alhaji Muniru, 38, also a teacher, and the Convention People's Party (CPP), Nelson Asafo, 46, a businessman.  

Ms Kpatakpa assured the people that the Police Service had made all the necessary security arrangements to deploy security men throughout the constituency for a peaceful and transparent bye-election.

The bye-election became necessary due to the sudden death of Mr Henry Ford Kamel, the Member of Parliament for the area who was also the Volta Regional Minister, on December 25, last year. 

He was laid to rest at Guaman, his home town, on February 23.
