He is, therefore, using the awareness of his 70th birthday celebration to raise support for the war veterans and other senior citizens.

The highlight of the 70th birthday celebration of former President Jerry John Rawlings last week Thursday was a lunch hosted in honour of living Ghanaian World War II veterans and other senior citizens.

Veterans who attended the event at the Labadi Beach Hotel included Staff Sergeant Clement Adranu, Ex-Warrant Officer Class One Banini, Lance Corporal Jonas Awutei, Corporal George Antwi, Corporal Yaw Asare, Private Kpakpo Mingle, Private Samuel Asamoah and Private Ashitei Hammond.

Former President Rawlings, who was in the company of his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, daughters Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa and Amina, as well as other family members and friends, including First Lady Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to spend his birthday with national heroes.

The veterans also took turns to congratulate the former President and wished him well, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the warm gesture.
