The two are Mr Benjamin Otoo, a senior lecturer at the Cape Coast Technical University, for Gomoa East and Mr Isaac Odoom, also an Educationist, for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa.

Both elections which were conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission, were graced by Mr Thomas Adjei Baffoe, the deputy Central Regional Minister, and some confirmed district chief executives.

At Gomoa Afransi, all 39 assembly members voted for the President’s nominee. Subsequently, he was sworn into office by the Swedru High Court Judge, Justice Peter Dei Offei.

However, in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, out of the 45 assembly members, 43 voted in favour of the nominee while two voted against him; representing 96 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

The announcement of the results by the electoral officers in both districts was met with  spontaneous jubilation by the assembly members, party supporters and members of the general public who thronged the venues to witness the event.

Victory speech

In a short address, Mr Benjamin Otoo commended the assembly for their confidence in him, hence his overwhelming endorsement.

He pledged to tackle the high incidence of teenage pregnancy in the district which is depriving most teenage girls from pursuing a higher education .

He bemoaned the upsurge of unplanned physical developments in the district and called for support from the chief to control the situation.

He assured the assembly members of his resolve to offer an effective and efficient leadership that  would attract development to the district.

Acceptance speech

For his part, Mr Isaac Odoom promised to tackle educational issues in the district by ensuring that schoolchildren had a safe environment to study.

He stated that since the district is a forest area, he would encourage the youth to take advantage of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme by the government to improve their livelihood.

Minister

Mr Adjei Baffoe thanked the assembly members for confirming the nominees, saying that the act would facilitate the development of the district.

He implored the DCEs to offer selfless leadership to the people that would see a total transformation of the districts and the region as whole.
