In his view, DCE’s must see members of Parliament as partners in development, arguing that, “we are to complement each other to bring rapid development to the people of Ghana.”

As an MP, Mr Wumbei told the Daily Graphic that he believed in Ghana first, even though he belonged to the New Patriotic Party, and stressed the importance of working in unity in diversity.

According to the MP for Tolon, it is wrong for some DCE’s to perceive some MP’s, especially those from the opposing political camps, as enemies of progress and could delay the release of their common funds unduely and, thereby, slowing down the pace of development.

“I am happy to say that I don’t have any friction with my DCE,” he told the Daily Graphic, saying, “I am looking forward to an enhanced work relationship, all in the interest of the constituency and national progress.”

Mr Wumbei said for the country to make inroads in the national development agenda, all stakeholders must complement one another in the development process.

He said his six-week stay in Parliament had been a very good learning experience, considering the fact that he was in the House for the first time and learning from his senior colleagues.

“I am working hard in Parliament to leave an enduring legacy, including help improve living standards among my constituents,” he stated.

On political discourse in the country, Mr Wumbei called for the respect of the elderly.

“There is a lot of indiscipline in the Ghanaian society, “When we were children, we were taught to respect the elderly and it is very sad to see this virtue lost in our society,” the MP lamented.

He took the opportunity to thank his constituents for voting for him in the last election recalling that, “the 2012 elections was quiet tough, I was competing against a sitting MP and the victory did not come easily.”

He gave an assurance that he would not let his constituents down, saying, “I will be able to fulfill most of my campaign promises with the confidence reposed in me.”
