The interactive meeting, held on a Friday afternoon in Accra, saw representatives from over 80 traders' associations under GUTA actively participating.
Dr. Joseph Obeng Darko, the President of GUTA, initiated the forum and invited members to share their concerns and suggestions regarding their sector with Dr. Bawumia and his team.
Dr. Bawumia took an open approach during the session, allowing numerous GUTA members to freely interact with him.
Commending Dr. Bawumia for his proposed tax reforms, including tax amnesty and a flat tax rate, the GUTA President expressed optimism about the benefits these policies could bring to businesses. He emphasized the potential simplification and improvement of business operations under such a tax regime.
One of the primary concerns highlighted by GUTA was the harassment faced by businesses from tax officials under the current tax system, which Dr. Bawumia pledged to overhaul.
Responding to questions and suggestions from GUTA members, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. He emphasized his goal of making Ghana one of the most business-friendly economies globally and outlined key policies aimed at achieving this, including a transparent flat tax rate system inspired by Estonia's successful model.
Dr. Bawumia's engagement with GUTA is part of his broader efforts to engage with stakeholders across various sectors, seeking their input and explaining his policies in preparation for the 2024 elections.
