Tema West aspirant lauds delegates for bold decision

An aspirant in the upcoming primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tema West Constituency, Mrs Adwoa Amoako, has lauded the constituency’s delegates for their bold decision to not allow themselves to be influenced by ‘sweet talks’ by some minority Members of Parliament (MPs), as well as some politicians, to vote for a particular candidate in Saturday’s parliamentary primaries.

Some MPs last Friday met the delegates in two separate meetings and impressed upon them to vote for the incumbent MP. Soon after the said meeting, the delegates resolved to let their conscience direct them on the choice of the candidate for the constituency.

Hailing decision

Hailing the decision of the delegates during whistle-stop visits to some of the electoral areas last Monday, Mrs Amoako said, “This is victory for common sense; posterity will richly reward you for your mature stand.”

“What has suddenly changed for our MP to court the assistance of others outside the constituency to prosecute a successful campaign, when the ordinary people were the ones she used in 2008 and 2012?” Mrs Amoako asked.

Inducements

She further urged the delegates to not get influenced by the many gifts being showered on them by some of the aspirants, but to rather vote for someone who would unite the rank and file of the party in the constituency and further ensure an overall victory in 2016.

“What will it benefit you to get all the material things in the world and waste votes? Your vote is more important than any material thing in the world.

The real focus of everyone who really loves the party must be to ensure that the NPP regains its commanding heights in the Tema West Constituency.

That is paramount to our success and it is non-negotiable.

“The result of the last election clearly shows that the party’s performance is dwindling fast in Tema West, especially in the parliamentary race.

Indeed, whereas the presidential candidate amassed some 40,000-plus votes, the performance of the parliamentary candidate was nowhere near that – our candidate won by a mere 945 votes.

This, therefore, implies that there was a lot of ‘skirt and blouse’ voting owing to our candidate’s dwindling popularity among the electorate, so it is up to delegates to vote for someone who will change the fortunes of the party for the better in the constituency,” she said.

She reiterated that given her rich experience as an assembly member at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly for the past 14 years, she was ready to lead the party in Tema West and ensure massive victory in 2016.

“I am the choice for change in Tema West. I will not disappoint if you give me the nod,” Mrs Amoako stated confidently.
