Take responsibility for peaceful elections - Agbogbomefia tells chiefs

Togbe Afede reminded politicians to respect the desire of Ghanaians for peace, adding, “While we all cannot think alike, we are one people with a shared interest in peace, unity and development.”

He, therefore, underscored the need for tolerance and a commitment to fair play during the forthcoming elections.

He said politicians needed to think twice about the remarks they made and how they made them, noting that those who truly desired to serve the nation would not resort to violence as a way of securing the right to lead the people.

On development, he said an integrated agricultural and rabbit project to be located in the North Tongu District, with out-breeders in various parts of the region, would soon take off.

He said the project was being initiated with the collaboration of some partners from China and asked interested farmers to register with the Asogli Secretariat in Ho.

Togbe Afede also said project proposals on businesses would soon be collated and made available to partners under the Volta-Ningxia Sister Cities Relationship of China and other investors who might be interested in the region.

He commended the chiefs for their unflinching co-operation which had led to the birth of the Volta Development Plan, the Volta Region Development Agency and the Volta-Ningxia Sister Regions Agreement.

The President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs said efforts were being made to get all the 118 traditional areas in the region to be represented in  the house and expressed the hope that Parliament would pass new legislation to warrant a further expansion of the membership of the house.
