Six vie for Ho Central NDC primary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary in the Ho Central Constituency promises to be an exciting one.

Unlike four years ago when the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Benjamin Kpodo, had a field day without a contender, the story this time is different.
Five persons are in contest with Mr Kpodo to win the slot as the candidate for the party in the 2020 election.

They are Messrs Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Gordon Cudjoe Akpadie, Emmanuel Kafui Dzamefe, Stanley Nelvis Glate and Eric Seyram Bene.

Although it does not appear to be a fierce contest looking at the number of people contesting, it will still be a contest whose outcome many would like to know, as to whether a new person would be presented this time for Ho Central or Mr Kpodo would have the opportunity to be the MP for the third time in the constituency.

One of the candidates who could be a threat to the incumbent’s bid is the Constituency Secretary, Mr Stanley Nelvis Glate.

He has promised to increase the votes of the constituency in the 2020 election if given the nod. According to him, the NDC lost over 20,000 votes in the constituency in the 2016 election, which goes to show that the people are yearning for a new representative.

“I will win this election because I am the obvious choice. The people know my contribution to the party for over the past 10 years and I believe they will reward loyalty and dedication,” he told the Daily Graphic.

Should he become a legislator, Mr Glate said he would lobby and liaise with key stakeholders to solve some of the problems in the constituency, especially roads, by working to ensure the resumption on networks such as the Sokode-Ho dual carriage and the Kpenoe–Takla-Hodzo roads, works on which have stalled under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Another contender, Mr Dzamefe, is leaving no stone unturned to win the primary as he believes he is the candidate the people are looking for.

Also, the Presiding Member of the Ho Municipal Assembly, Mr Eric Bene, who though unassuming, appears to be a tough candidate who could pull a shocker in the primary.

However, observation made by the Daily Graphic showed that the incumbent stands a brighter chance of winning the primary.

Mr Kpodo is a force to reckon with and it is, therefore, possible that the five other candidates will split the votes for him to smoothly win the contest.

Ho Central, therefore, will undoubtedly be one of the hottest constituencies for the NDC primary as the winner, like other constituencies in the region, is certain to win the parliamentary election come 2020 considering the fact that the region is the stronghold of the NDC.
