Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly gets PM finally
The Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly last Friday elected Nana Antwi Agyei II, a 59-year old businessman and Akwamuhene of Sekyere in the Sekyere Kumawu District of Ashanti, as its new Presiding Member.
In an election supervised by the Electoral Commission, 28 out of the 35 assembly members present voted Yes representing 80 per cent endorsement while 7 voted No.

He replaces Mr Samuel Addae Agyekum, the current District Chief Executive (DCE) who until April last year had been the PM for five years before stepping down to contest the DCE position which he won leading to a vacancy for the PM position.
Background
When the PM position became vacant last year after Mr Addae Agyekum was appointed the DCE, the assembly voted four times in September, 2017, over Aziz Dauda and Ofori Falid but neither of them could garner the two-thirds majority to sail through.
In November last year, George Amponsah Gyebi was also voted over on three occasions but could also not get the nod leaving the position vacant till last Friday when the assembly voted for Nana Antwi Agyei.
Acceptance
Nana Antwi Agyei II, the new PM lauded the Assembly members for the trust they have reposed in him and pledged to work extra hard to bring development into the area.
He called for unity among members of the assembly so they could work as a force to get the best for the development of the area.
The PM also reminded the members of the assembly to avoid any act of politicizing issues and rather think of how best they could support good development initiatives.
Pledge
Nana Agyei pledged to be fair to all members of the assembly irrespective of their ethnic, gender, political or religious background so that everybody would have his/her voice heard as well as contribute towards the development of the district.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Addae Agyekum, also lauded the house for the speedy endorsement of the PM, describing it as testimony of their readiness to enhance the development of the area.
He was particularly happy that with the presence of the PM, the assembly structures were ready to take off so they would be able to support the government’s development agenda.
