An aspiring parliamentary candidate contesting the National Democratic Congress primaries in the Ahanta West Constituency in the Western Region, Mr Sam Pee Yalley, has called for a healthy campaign.

That, he said, would ensure that the winner and losers would still work together to transform the constituency.

The Ahanta West seat is currently occupied by Mr George Aboagye, who is seeking re-election at the primaries.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Takoradi ahead of the primaries, Mr Pee Yalley said the constituency held the potential of becoming an industrial and financial hub through agriculture.

Prime focus

“My prime focus in the primary is to ensure the transformation of the constituency and the district as a whole, from geographic and political view points to an economic and agriculture hub.

“What I want to do is to serve and work together with the people to change the constituency into a place of choice,” he said.

India partnership

He said in India, he came face to face with investors who had expressed interest in agriculture and agro processing.

“I assured them of my interest in partnering them to develop agriculture in Ghana,” he stated.

He said it was interesting to note that most of the farm inputs were not expensive and very easy to manufacture to support agro- business and “the interesting part is that women in Ahanta West have expressed interest.”

Tour

The ambassador to India said on one of his tours of the constituency recently, he made the people aware that being an MP had its responsibilities, which come together as a call to national duty as a law maker and servant of the people.

“I conceived the idea of bringing from India the experiences in agriculture and agro-processing to the people of Ghana before the call from the constituents; therefore, whether I win or not, I will still ensure that I serve my people,” he said.

He said linking people from Ahanta West and other parts of the country where agriculture needed serious partners to harness its potential was crucial.

Door-to-door campaign

According to Mr Pee Yalley, he is campaigning to give his people quality representation in Parliament with influence and the ability to use contemporary leadership style to meet their aspirations.

He, therefore, assured the constituents that there was hope for Ahanta West.

He said one interesting thing he had seen during his door-to-door campaign was that members of the opposition NPP were campaigning for his opponent.

“We are all in one party. I will not go and fight and make a case over it. I will focus on my hope-driven message for the people and campaigning for my opponent tells me he might be the weaker one they want to contest,” he said.

He said his campaign team had seen the register, as people were checking and everything seemed to be ready for victory come November 21 and victory for Ahanta West and the NDC in the 2016 general election.

“My meeting with the people, especially the youth, was to encourage them that if I am from the district and I have moved through the system to become a lawyer and an ambassador, nothing should stop them from reaching their goals,” he said.

Mr Pee Yalley called on the people to ensure that come November 21, they would vote massively for the change that would ensure quality representation for the people in Parliament.
