Rousing welcome for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang at Komenda

The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer for the 2020 elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, arrived in her native Komenda in the Komenda Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality in the Central Region to a rousing welcome last Tuesday.

It was her first time going to her hometown after being named running mate. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was received by dozens who had lined the streets of the fishing community to cheer her up.

The cheers became even louder as she got out of her vehicle as the excited crowd waved and danced. She first went to the palace of the Omanhen, Nana Kwadwo Kru, to pay homage.

She was accompanied by the Member of Parliament (MP) for KEEA, Mr Samuel Atta Mills, MP for Agona East, Mrs Pokua Sawyer, the MP for North Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr E. K.T. Addo.

Seeking support Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the visit was to thank the chiefs and people of her hometown and to seek their blessings and support as the elections approached.

She said the chiefs, particularly the Omanhen, had been a solid pillar for her from the days of her appointment as Vice Chancellor and said she was hopeful of the support of her chiefs and people for the NDC.

She said she found it expedient to come home before stepping out into her new role. Praise Nana Kru said it was great that a daughter of the land had been honoured to be appointed as a running mate for the NDC.

He said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s life had been synonymous with glory and added that her nomination did not come as a surprise to him.

"They saw your worth and knew there was something good in you and that was why you were chosen," he stated. He said the traditional council would continue to support her with prayers for victory. COVID 19 She educated the people on the COVID-19 safety protocols and urged them to observe all the protocols stressing that the disease was real.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said all Ghanaians deserved to have access to opportunities that would better their lives and ensure enhanced living conditions. She therefore, asked the people to vote the NDC back into power. She urged the youth to work harder to achieve their aspirations.
