Re-appoint Owusu Obeng as MCE - Tafo Traditional Council declares preference

The Tafo Traditional Council in the Old Tafo Municipality, led by the Tafohene, Nana Agyen Frimpong Ababio, has declared its support for the re-appointment of Mr Fred Owusu Obeng as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area.

The council said it arrived at the decision taking into consideration the welfare of the people and the development of the community.

Endorsement

Addressing the media at his palace, Nana Frimpong Ababio said the executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in consultation with the traditional council, had proposed retaining the current MCE for the Old Tafo Municipality.

He, therefore, asked those trying to get the council to support or endorse them for the same position to stop it as the council would not entertain any more lobbying from anyone.

According to Nana Ababio, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah, had approached the council to endorse another candidate for the position of MCE.

“I told him that would not be possible as I had already endorsed another person.

“And besides, we do not have any issue with the current MCE and don’t want him replaced, so why should we support another person?” he asked.

He added that the Assembly Member for Pankrono East, Nana Kwadwo Pipim, also came to seek the blessing of the traditional council for the position of the MCE and was also given the same answer.

He asked those interested in the position of the MCE and trying to lobby the traditional council to support them to think of the welfare of the people and the unity of their political party rather than their parochial interests.

Allegation

According to Nana Frimpong, it came as a surprise to them when they heard Nana Pipim making all sorts of allegations, including embezzlement, against the sitting MCE.

He said while the council would not want to meddle in politics, it would like to place on record that it was solidly behind the MCE and would plead with the President to re-appoint him.

He advised the party members to desist from undermining one another all in the quest to become the MCE as it would go against the development of the country.

He wondered how people from the same party seeking the well-being of the people they were trying to lead were trying to outdo one another through foul means.

While holding no brief for the MCE, Nana Frimpong said the MCE had not shown any traits that showed that he could be guilty of the crime he was being accused of.

That notwithstanding, he said he had asked the coordinating director of the assembly to get both the internal and external auditors to look into the books of the assembly and inform him of the findings.

He said the traditional council would always support any party that had the interest of the people at heart and would outlive all governments.
