The former chairman of the esrtwhile national tribunal, Nana Addo - Aikins, has added his voice to the call on the Constitutional Review Commission and the government to hasten slowly and put on hold, their decision to implement the existing constitution review proposal by December 2014.
He, therefore, suggested any convenient period between June to September, 2015 by which time adequate inputs may have been gathered and preparation made within an expected congenial political and economic environment.
"Calls for extension of the implementation of the constitution review proposals are therefore in order", he added.
In a statement issued in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Nana Addo -Aikins, who is also a private legal practitioner, said inputs so far gathered in the course of the constitutional review exercise appeared to be a "repackaging of the existing unworkable constitutional order cannot be adequate enough to satisfy the constitutional amendments required for due constitutional and democratic change in Ghana today".
He said that was so because the inputs so far gathered missed out the crucial issue of power relations which objectively and fairly dealt with the issue of where power, authority and wealth should lie and assist in equitable and just distribution of those entities between ruling governments and people for full participation of the people in governance.
"The inputs, therefore, miss out the other crucial issue of handling of the winner -takes - all political syndrome which has been a grave mischief in the nation's constitutional practice for its creation of conditions for excessive concentration of power, authority and wealth in the hands of ruling class which in turn, been causing alienation of the people from the power base and opened the way for exploitation, autocracy, dictatorship and oppression in the nation's system of governance", he said.
He said the constitution review exercise as it was now, therefore, needed more inputs through a more extended and a more expansive public debate to bring it in line with what was before implementation.
"To implement anu such constitution review proposals by December 2014 as being envisage without waiting for mord inputs through public debates will be a disastrous venture for the nation's search for a true constitutional and democratic order", he concluded.
