President Akufo-Addo congratulates Oppong Weah on his victory

President Akufo-Addo has congratulated Liberia’s President-elect, George Oppong Weah, on his victory in the country’s presidential elections.

In a post on Facebook, President Akufo-Addo said: “Warm congratulations to George Oppong Weah on his decisive victory in Liberia’s peaceful presidential run-off, thus becoming the next President of the Republic of Liberia”.

He also commended George Weah’s main contender, Vice President Boakai for demonstrating maturity in his campaign, saying “Vice President Boakai is also to be commended for the maturity of his campaign”.

President Akufo-Addo said the election has strengthened the frontiers of democracy in Liberia, and “it is our hope that it will lead to the improvement of the living standards of Liberians. Best wishes for the success of President-elect George Weah, and Vice President-elect, Jewel Taylor”.

Meanwhile, Liberian president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has pledged her readiness to hand-over power peacefully.
