PPP suspends demonstration
The Progressive People's Party has suspended its planned demonstration, which was scheduled for this week, over alleged corruption in the government.

The National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, said the decision to call off the protest was in respect of the ban imposed on demonstrations by the police.
The Accra Police Command had vowed to stop the protest on the grounds that its ban on all public demonstrations until after Ghana’s presidential election petition was over still holds.
According to Nii Brew-Hammond, although the party was yet to receive official communication from the police to that effect, they would "abide by it".
"We have not received any official response from the police, we heard on radio that the ban is still in force until verdict is declared so we will abide by it," he said.
The police vowed yesterday to stop the planned demonstration by the PPP in protest against alleged corruption in the government.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Accra, DSP Freeman Tettey, insisted that its ban on all public demonstrations until after Ghana’s presidential election petition was over was still valid.
Although they had not been given the go-ahead, the National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond, earlier hinted that the PPP was still negotiating with the police to give them the green light for a peaceful demonstration meant to express their disgust about corruption in the country.
The PPP chair did not specify particular examples of the ‘high levels of corruption’, but it appeared to be linked to startling revelations of corruption at the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA).
