Portuphy vows NDC unity, victory in 2016

The newly elected chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr. Kofi Portuphy has, on behalf of his colleague executives, vowed to pursue the path of unity to ensure the NDC prosecutes the 2016 elections as a team.

Speaking moments after the party’s newly constituted administration was sworn into office at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Mr Portuphy said steps to unite the party front begins immediately and with the support of all, the party would retain power come 2016.

“We will endeavour from today to bring all of us on the path of unity. We shall unite our party and make sure that we work as a team towards 2016, and that 2016 is our goal,” he promised delegates at the party’s national congress where he polled 2,457 votes to wrest the post from incumbent, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, who managed only 316 votes. Mr. Dan Abodakpi, the other contender for the post, polled 508. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary, retained his post with 2,685 votes against his challenger, Abdullah Farrakhan who polled 606 votes. The National Organiser position went to Kofi Adams who polled 2,543 votes to defeat incumbent Yaw Boateng Gyan who got 734 votes.

Mr. Portuphy assured party members of the new administration’s commitment and availability at all times, describing the outcome of the congress as a victory for the entire party.

“I want to assure all of you that we shall be available day and night, rain or shine, fire, whatever storm, we’ll make sure that we are available and that you don’t need lamps to look for us in the night.

 

“Comrades and friends, I would like to emphasise that today is victory for NDC, victory for all of us and I can assure you that together we will deliver with your support. Thank you very much.”
