Polls in Western region smooth

The Fort One Polling Station which has a total of 371 registered voters, 113 had voted as at 9.25 am, while the Fort Two Polling Station with 417 registered voters 99 had cast their votes as at 9.30 in the morning.

At the Methodist JHS Polling Station 183 people out of the 976 registered voters had cast their votes as at 9.40 am, while at the D/A Forecourt Polling Station 137 people out of the 394 registered voters had cast their votes as at 10.05 in the morning.

The Presiding Officer for the Methodist JHS Polling Station, Mr Bernard Bosomprah told the Daily Graphic that everything was going on smoothly and that the party agents were cooperating with the electoral officers.

The Shama Constituency has 88 polling stations and 49,304 registered voters.

Parliamentary candidates contesting the seat are Gabriel Kodwo Essifie for the NDC, Joseph Cantamanto Garbrah for the NPP, Joseph Essuman for the PPP and Samuel Diaw Manful CPP.

Daily Graphic’s visit to some polling stations in the newly created Effia Constituency showed that there were no queues at most of the stations while few recorded long queues.

At the Acalema Spot ‘B’ Polling Station 311 people out of 570 registered voters had cast their votes as at 1.35 pm, while at the Acalema “A’ Polling Station 305 people out of the 568 registered voters had voted as at 1.32 pm.

At the Takoradi Polytechnic Main Gate ‘B’ which has a total of 1,035 registered voters, 497 had voted as at 1.40 pm, while at the Takoradi Polytechnic Main Gate ‘A’ 406 people out of the 1,035 registered voters had cast their votes as at 1.50 pm.

At the Neighbourhood Centre Polling Station in the Takoradi Constituency 360 people out of the 528 registered voters had cast their votes as at 2.pm, while at the Shell Filling Station in the constituency 451 people out of the 678 registered voters had voted as at 2.pm.

Also at the Sekondi Taxi Rank Polling Station in Takoradi, 309 people out of 502 registered voters had cast their votes at the time of the visit, while at the Fitting Shop Polling Station which has a total of 678 registered voters 451 people had registered as at 2.20 pm.

Contestants for the Effia parliamentary seat are Mohammed Barkwa Ali NDC, Joseph Cudjoe NPP, Theresa Baffowa Lartey PPP and Alexander Prince Egyir Yawson PNC.

Alfred Ekow Gyan NDC, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah NPP, the incumbent and Vivian Arthur are contesting the Takoradi parliamentary seat.

The Western Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Stephen Opoku-Mensah told the Daily Graphic that he very satisfied with the voting going on in the region.

He said no major incidence had been recorded and that security was well covered.

The region has 2,618 polling stations and a little over 1.4 million registered voters.

About 4,000 security personnel had been redeployed in the region to maintain law and order at the polling stations.
