Parliament has summoned power producers to explain what has accounted for the shortfall in energy supply in the wake of reports of a shutdown of the Bui Dam.
The mines and energy committee of parliament has already sent out letters to the Volta River Authority (VRA), GRIDco and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to come before them and explain what has accounted for the energy shortfall.
According to the Member of Parliament for Kwabre West, Mr William Owuraku Aidoo who is a member of the Mines and Energy Committee what was currently happening was “very confusing” as the Energy Minister and his Deputy seem to be speaking different languages.
“You have the Minister saying this and yesterday honourable Jinapor also came out to say that we should switch off our fridges or whatever when we are watching football, Mr Coffie gives us timelines, the President comes in and gives us timelines which we keep missing …we need to bring these agencies before us and here from them.

Meanwhile there are reports that the Bui Power Authority has shut down the dam.
But a spokesperson of the Bui Power Authority, Wombilla Salifu told Joy FM in Accra that they have only significantly reduced their level of production because of the low level of water in the reservoir.
This he said may seem or appear to suggest that they have shut down.
He said their engineers were monitoring the inflows and based on what they are getting some level of production was being done.
