Parliament breaks for three months

Parliament is going on a three month break to allow for renovation works in the Chamber so as to ensure a comfortable accommodation of the 45 new members.

The vacation which begins Friday is to allow contractors have full access to the Chamber so as to be able to reconfigure the floor.

The planned reconfiguration has become necessary following the recent increase in the number of seats in the House from 230 to 275 seats.

Members of Parliament have complained of overcrowding in the chamber following the increase in the number of seats in the chamber.

It is hoped that on completion, the reconfigured Chamber of Parliament will sit all 275 MPs comfortably.

The House is expected to reconvene in October.
