In a statement dated September 26, 2024, the NPP Youth Wing described those arrested as "miscreants and hooligans" masquerading as peaceful demonstrators.
The group led by the NPP National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha condemned the actions of the arrested individuals, who have been charged with unlawful assembly, destruction of property, and assaulting public officers.
The statement emphasized the need for legal action against these acts of criminality carried out under the guise of protests.
"Law and order are fundamental to the peace and security of our nation, and those who violate these principles should not be exempt from justice," the statement read.
The NPP Youth Wing urged law-abiding citizens to support law enforcement agencies in prosecuting those involved. While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful demonstration, the group stressed that acts of vandalism, destruction of property, and other unlawful activities must be condemned.
They further warned that failing to prosecute the offenders could foster a culture of impunity, potentially encouraging further violence.
