NPP to create new region — Akufo-Addo

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will create a new region in the country to be called the Western North Region if it is elected, the Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced.

That decision is based on the current large size of the Western Region and the urgent need for an efficient and effective administration and to also harness the abundant resources of the region for effective development in both the Western North and Western South regions, he explained.

“It is time for the creation of a new administrative region for the Western part of Ghana and so we will use all the constitutional process to pursue this ambition,” Nana Addo said.

He, therefore, appealed to the people in the area to vote massively for the party to win both the presidential and parliamentary polls so that it could assume power to discharge that responsibility.

Rallies at Dadieso

Nana Akufo-Addo made the announcement when he addressed separate rallies at Dadieso, the capital of the Saaman District and Sefwi Akontombra in the Bia East District as part of his five-day campaign tour of the northern part the Western Region, which began at from Bibiani last Wednesday.

He was accompanied by Mr Alan K Kyerematen, a former Minister of Trade and Industry; Dr Kwaku Afriyie, a former Minister in the Kufuor era; Mr Peter Mac Manu, the National Campaign Manager of the party; Ms Otiko Djaba, NPP’s National Women’s Organiser; Mr Joe Ghartey, the Member of Parliament for Esikado Ketan  and other party functionaries.

Nana Akufo-Addo said when elected into power, the NPP would pursue other aggressive policies that would resuscitate the ailing economy, adding “we have the men and women to achieve this goal.”

According to him, it was not a divine wish that Ghanaians should suffer “the current economic hardships under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by President John Mahama.”

He added that the NPP was poised for good work that would change the lives of the people.

The presidential candidate and his entourage addressed similar rallies at Sefwi Akontombra, Enchi and Asankragua and paid courtesy calls on traditional authorities. Nana Akufo-Addo also seized the opportunity to introduce the various parliamentary candidates in the region to the people.

Bluff of NDC

Mr Kyerematen called the bluff of the NDC when it said the government had constructed roads, hospitals and schools, saying it is the responsibility of every government to provide such infrastructure for its people.

“After the provision of all these projects which are being touted by the NDC, Ghanaians are not seeing any reflection in their pockets. There are no jobs for the people for them to be able to feed themselves well,” he stressed.
