The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to cease all forms of campaign activities with immediate effect.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by the General Secretary, Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it had received numerous complaints that some members with parliamentary aspirations had begun campaigning in various constituencies.
It said such conduct was contrary to the party's regulations and Code of Conduct, created an uneven playing field and undermined the unity and discipline on which the party's success depends.
The directive covers the mounting of posters, billboards, banners and other branded materials, as well as the organising of rallies, polling station executives meetings or tours for the purpose of soliciting support. It also prohibits the distribution of items or other inducements to delegates and party members, and paid media and social media advertising promoting a candidacy.
The party said officers at the polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, as well as the Tescon wing, are forbidden entirely from posting any parliamentary aspirant on any social media platform, including Facebook, X and Instagram, or enabling such pre-mature aspirants' activities.
It warned that any person who fails to comply would be dealt with in accordance with the party's disciplinary procedures, which may affect their eligibility to contest.
The party said it would announce the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary processes in due course, and directed constituency and regional executives to ensure strict compliance within their jurisdictions. It said it counted on the cooperation of all members.
