NPP suspends Nalerigu/Gambaga parliamentary aspirant for misconduct

A parliamentary aspirant in the  Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Peter Wuni Baaga has been suspended from the party for misconduct.

"I regret to inform you that your membership of the New Patriotic Party  has been suspended pending the outcome of investigations of alleged misconduct against you; and subsequent to your appearance before the Regional Disciplinary Committee of the party," a letter addressed to Mr Baaga, signed by the Regional Chairman, Fuseini Nurudeen and seen by Graphic Online said.

Checks by Graphic Online at the constituency secretariat confirmed that Mr Baaga has indeed been suspended and that he was facing the disciplinary committee of the party.

On the live radio programme, and speaking in the Mamprusi languague, Mr Peter Wuni Baaga made a number of allegations against the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Hajia Alima Mahama, the East Mamprusi Municipal Chief Executive and other executives of the NPP in the constituency.

He for instance accused the MP of rigging the 2004 parliamentary elections of which he [Baaga] was the brain behind the act.

He also said the constituency executives, North East regional executives of the NPP were not seeking the interest of the party but rather using it to amass wealth for themselves.

He made the allegations on the radio station on Tuesday May 12, 2020.

The suspension letter stated: “This action has been necessitated by certain utterances you made during a radio programme at Tizaa FM, a local radio station based in Nalerigu in the evening of 12th May 2020. Your utterances were in breach of Article 4(7) of the NPP Constitution and the General Guidelines governing the parliamentary primaries issued by the General Secretary of the party.

Below is a copy of the suspension letter

"The Regional Chairman as well as the Regional Executive Committee are in possession of a recorded tape of the programme and are compelled to initiate disciplinary action against you”, it stated.

The letter further directed the parliamentary aspirant to cease holding himself as a member of the party until investigations of misconduct against him are completed by the disciplinary committee of the party.

Mr Baaga who is a former DCE for the area is one of the three aspirants contesting the incumbent MP in the upcoming primary.
