NPP supporter stabbed to death in Nana Addo vs Afoko supporters clash

A 37-year-old spare parts dealer in Kumasi and a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abubakari Saddick, has been stabbed to death by a rival group believed to be loyalists of suspended party chairman, Paul Afoko at the Asawase party secretariat.

Saddick was a member of a group who had stormed the secretariat Friday to prevent the alleged Afoko loyalists returning from a demonstration in Accra from entering the party office.

The office was locked up last Thursday by one Mama China and Hajia Barikisu, said to be a pro-Nana Akufo-Addo group, who had accused the constituency Chairman I.K. Brenya of masterminding the mobilisation of party supporters to partake in the demonstration to demand the reinstatement of Mr Afoko.

Confusion broke out Friday afternoon when the Afoko group tried to re-open the office, leading to the stabbing of the 37-year-old man.

The pro-Afoko group managed to enter the office and vandalised some items despite resistance by the pro-Akufo-Addo group.

The deceased was allegedly chased out and pursued till he succumbed and was subsequently stabbed in the abdomen and died soon after.

Police Confirm
The Divisional Commander of the Zongo Police Station in Kumasi, ACP John Tweneboah confirmed the story at the scene to the Graphic Online but said details were still sketchy. No arrest had been made as at the time of fileing this story and police said investigations were underway.

The body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy while a search is on to apprehend the perpetrators.
