New dates for filing of nominations for district-level elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the dates for the filing of nominations for the 2015 District Assembly and Unit Committee elections.The original date for the filing of nominations for the District Assembly elections was July 2 and 3 but it has been moved to July 6 and 7, 2015.

A statement from the Commission, signed by its Deputy Chairman for Operations, Mr Amadu Sulley said nomination for the Unit Committee elections would be taken on Wednesday, July 8 and Thursday July 9, 2015.
The original date was July 4 and 5.

According to the Commission, the intensive preparations for the conduct of the parliamentary by-election in the Talensi constituency scheduled for July 7, 2015 had necessitated the rescheduling of filing of nominations.

It added, however, that filing of nominations in the Talensi district would take place on Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10, 2015 for the District Assembly elections, while nomination for the Unit Committee elections would take place on Monday, July 13 and Tuesday July 14, 2015.
Nominations will also be received by the Deputy Returning Officers (Special Duties) at the respective electoral area centres from 9:00a.m. to 12:00 noon and 2:00p.m. to 5:00 pm on the aforementioned dates.

The EC, however, reminded the public that the date for the elections would remain as Tuesday, September 1, 2015 and requested all prospective candidates and the general public to take note and comply with the new arrangements.
