NDC 'Zango Caucus' calls on members to register in new voter registration exercise

The National Zango Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on its members to participate in the upcoming Electoral Commission’s (EC) new voter registration exercise scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

A statement signed by the National Zango Caucus Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Mamah, said the group will put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure that members who did not have a passport or Ghana Card are vouched for to enable them to get onto the new voter register.

“In spite of the fact that many in our zango communities through no fault of theirs may have to depend on the benevolence of others to guarantee for them before they can duly exercise their right to vote in the 2020 general election, we in the Zango Caucus can promise and assure the rank and file of our great party that, the NDC, under the distinguished leadership of our leader and flagbearer, H.E John Dramani Mahama, will put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure as many of our brethren in the Zango's get onto the Voter roll,” the statement said.

Below is a copy of the statement

The National Zango Caucus of the NDC having received news of the disturbing outcome of the court ruling involving the NDC and the Electoral Commission over the voter registration exercise is urging all citizens living within our Zango's to get out to register massively in order to protect their citizenship.

The attempt by the NPP to once again introduce the alien’s compliance order (something they did under their forefathers, the UP tradition) to alienate Zango residents is most unfair, despicable and won't be countenanced this time around.

There is no denying of the fact that, many qualified Ghanaians may be left out of this registration exercise due to the stringent measures deliberately put in place by the EC without recourse to the letter and spirit of article 42 of the 1992 Constitution.

In spite of the fact that many in our zango communities through no fault of theirs may have to depend on the benevolence of others to guarantee for them before they can duly exercise their right to vote in the 2020 general election, we in the Zango Caucus can promise and assure the rank and file of our great party that, the NDC, under the distinguished leadership of our leader and flagbearer, H.E John Dramani Mahama, will put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure as many of our brethren in the Zango's get onto the Voter roll.

The National Zango Caucus is by this notice calling on all qualified Ghanaians living in our zango's to as a matter of urgency come out in their numbers to register without fear of intimidation so we can reject this tribalistic NPP Government.

It is sine qua non to remind all that, citizenship in Ghana is not by tribe but by law, as such, be it a Fulani, a Zabrama, a Bisa or a Gonja, for so long as you are a Ghanaian and have attained the age of 18 years and of sound mind, you have the right to register and vote in any election.

Finally, the National Zango Caucus can assure the entire Umbrella fraternity that, inspite of the calculated attempts by the electoral commission and the NPP to suppress votes in the Zango's with the almost nonexistent base document to qualify one to register and vote, the Zango Caucus is resolute in its quest to continue to make our Zango's the world bank of NDC.

To achieve the above objectives, we call on all members within the NDC Zango Caucus structures to leave no stone unturned in mobilizing as many citizens as we can during the upcoming registration exercise just so we can make Ghana work again. Those who have the Ghana card or passport must endeavour to guarantee for those who dont have after they are through with the registration process.

Kindly contact your constituency or Regional Zango Caucus coordinator's in case of any impediment during the registration exercise.
