NDC to withdraw its agents from registration centres

The Bosomtwe Constituency of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to withdraw its agents from the various registration centres in the ongoing 10-day limited national registration exercise if the police fails to provide protection in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold.

The NDC Secretary in the constituency, Nana I. K Nyame, alleged that since the exercise started on April 28, 2016, supporters of the NPP had been massing up at the various centres threatening agents of the NDC each time they challenged anyone who came to a centre to register.

The threats were said to be more pronounced at Aputougya, Esreso, Sawuah and Jachie, all in the constituency. Nana Nyame told the Daily Graphic at Esreso that this was affecting the smooth operations of the exercise and the development of democracy.

The party had, subsequently, made official complaints to the Bosomtwe District Electoral Commission Officer, Mrs Ernestina Owusu-Banahene, who promised to help find a lasting solution to the problem.

“We have told party representatives that in times of doubt, they should resort to filling the challenge form to enable the person involved to be given the opportunity to prove his/her age and nationality, among others,” she said.

When contacted, Mrs Owusu-Banahene confirmed the story, saying she had informed the Kuntanase Police Command to help bring sanity to the centres.
