NDC to consolidate victory in 2016

The Member of Parliament for the Agona West Constituency, Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, has expressed optimism that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be stronger after the presidential and parliamentary primaries in order to win the 2016 elections.

According to him, the party would be more united and focused to consolidate its victory in next year’s general elections.

He said the party’s victory in 2012 was not a fluke and that members would continue to work hard from the polling station up to the national levels to ensure a resounding victory in the upcoming elections.

He indicated that the NDC’s retention of power in 2012 was not by chance and that Ghanaians voted massively for the party as a result of the numerous developmental projects it executed across the country.

Picking of form

Mr Obeng-Inkoom stated this while addressing journalists recently to seek re-election in the upcoming parliamentary primary at Agona Swedru last Wednesday.

In the last parliamentary primary in the round up to the 2012 elections, Mr Obeng-Inkoom contested against the current Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Oppong and won.

In the 2012 elections, he won the parliamentary seat for the party against the former NPP MP for the area, Mr Samuel Obodai who had held onto the seat since year 2000.

He stressed that though the area was acclaimed as a stronghold of the NPP, the party would embark upon a vigorous political campaign to enhance the fortunes of the party, as well as turn it into a stronghold of the party.

He mentioned that considering the numerous infrastructural projects the party had executed in the municipality, there was no way the party would lose the parliamentary seat and the presidency to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)

He urged members of the party not to lose hope but be resolute and campaign effectively for the party towards retaining power in 2016. He pledged to abide by the rules governing the primary to ensure a peaceful primary.

Communication Officer

The Central Regional Communication Officer of the party, Mr Kwesi Dawood, stated that the party would not be complacent to surrender the parliamentary seat to any political party.

He indicated that the party had a lot of confidence that the incumbent MP was the best candidate to retain the seat for it.
