An electrifying atmosphere is expected at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium tomorrow, when the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), launches its 2016 national campaign.

This, according to the party leadership, signals the beginning of its journey to retain power in the December 7 election.

The occasion will also be used to present its presidential candidate, President John Dramani Mahama to the electorate.

Thousands are expected to pour into the main bowl of the new Stadium, a baby of the NDC, to be part of the event which will be looking for nothing but victory in this year's election.

President Mahama, the centre of attraction at the event, who is seeking a second term on the ticket of the NDC, will seek to justify why Ghanaians should give him a second chance to serve as President.

Reliable sources have told the Daily Graphic that just after the campaign launch, the President will hit the ground running with his campaign, starting from the Western Region this week.

Voting trends

In the 2012 presidential election, President Mahama won with 5,574,761 representing 50.70 per cent, with his closest challenger, Nana Addo -Dankwa Akufo-Addo garnering 5,248,898 representing 47.74 per cent.

The NDC was founded on the principles of probity and accountability. The man who founded the party, former President J.J. Rawlings, will be present at the campaign launch. Parliamentary candidates for the party will also be introduced at the launch.

Theme

The theme of the NDC campaign is "Changing lives, transforming Ghana."

According to the party, the campaign will shed light on the government's achievements and what it intends to do when given another term in office.

Emphasis will be on the massive infrastructural development that has taken place across the country under President Mahama, who the party describes as the best candidate for this year's election.

Indeed, throughout his 'Accounting to the People' tour, President Mahama took pains to showcase what his government had been able to do to improve the lives of the people.

Manifesto later

The party will launch its manifesto later in the course of the campaign.

Addressing a news conference in Accra recently, the party's campaign spokesperson, Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari, said the manifesto would be released later.

"The manifesto launch is still in the offing and when we are ready it will be communicated, but Sunday will be specifically to 'outdoor' our candidate and to officially launch our 2016 campaign for the elections," she said.
