The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) must quickly revive its grass roots to enable it to retain power in 2016, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mr Dan Abodakpi, has stated.
Addressing the South Tongu constituency delegates conference at Sogakope at the weekend, during which new executive members were elected, he said weaknesses at the party’s grass roots were real.
Mr Abodakpi, who is vying for the position of national chairman, said the desire to rebuild the party’s grass roots in particular and the party in general was partly why he decided to join the contest.
“A weak grass roots means a weak party and we have to act quickly,” he said.
Expressing his delight at the peace on the party front in the area, Mr Abodakpi entreated the new executive body to work hard, and urged continuous support for the ruling party.
The DCE for the area, Mr Samuel Mawuko Eworyi, said the government was working hard to build a strong country despite challenges.
All the old executive members but William Amedzo, Organiser, and Gladys Abaya, Women’s Organiser, retained their positions in the elections supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.
Mr Christian Sakli, 66, a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, is the new Constituency Chairman, Michael Amekor – Secretary, Kwasi Gbadago – Treasurer, Bruno Gakpetor – Youth Organiser - and William Adusu – Propaganda Secretary.
A total of 48 people vied for the 18 positions with 464 delegates doing the voting. — GNA
