“On this august occasion we wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in Ghana and the world over well. The NDC commends you for the endurance, commitment, and sacrifice to the month-long fast and prayers which form an important item on the calendar of Islam,” the party stated.

In  a statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary, it said more commendable was the selflessness Muslims attached to the Ramadan by not only praying for themselves but the devotion to commit to Allah the well-being of mankind.

“We believe your continuous prayers and fasting has contributed to the harmonious co-existence which has become the bedrock for peace and tranquillity, stability and development in the country.

“We reiterate that the government instituted two national public holidays to mark the two important events on the Muslim calendar, of which the Eid–Ul–Fitr is one, in recognition of your role as genuine players in the country’s development process,” the statement added.

According to the NDC statement, the party was of the view that today’s celebration to climax the month-long difficult period of Ramadan would be used as a reminder to all Ghanaians, the need to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court ruling to sustain the peace and tranquillity of the nation.

“The NDC as a party and the ruling government recognises its leading role in promoting peace, and would not renege on its commitment to preach tolerance and peaceful co-existence as a means of enhancing unity needed to deepen the country’s democracy which has become the envy of Africa and other democratic countries across the globe. We commend all Muslims in Ghana and the world over for concluding the Ramadan successfully,” the statement concluded.
