He said persistently leaders of the NPP, notably Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, had described him as an incompetent President and questioned, "Do they know what it takes to be President to be saying incompetent Mahama administration?"

Speaking at an NDC forum at the Trade Fair site in Accra last Monday as part of his changing lives, transforming Ghana tour of the Greater Accra Region, President Mahama said, "My competence is for the people of Ghana to judge and not the NPP.

"And I know that come the 2016 elections, the people of Ghana will judge my competence and give me a second term," he added.

He told the charged party supporters that if it were ex-Presidents Rawlings or being Kufuor who described him as being incompetent, he would welcome it because they were once heads of state and not people who had nothing to show in their working lives.

Status quo

Stressing the need for the status quo to be maintained, the President said apart from President Mills who unfortunately lost his life before going for re-election, the remaining two ex-Presidents in the Fourth Republic were both given second terms in office by the people of Ghana.

He said it was ,therefore, logical that Ghanaians backed his second term bid so that he would continue with the good work.

He told the opposition that if they were going to campaign on dumsor , then they had failed already because he was going to fix the problem.

Insults

President Mahama flayed the opposition for resorting to insults on his person.

But he told the NDC supporters not to follow that line because the NDC was a peaceful party.

He also remarked that the NDC would not campaign on "someone's health."

"When we pray, we pray for good health for all, " he stressed.

President Mahama also asked for prayers for the NPP to come out of their troubles that had already resulted in the killing of two of their members.

Again, he challenged the elders of the major opposition party to come together to resolve their differences.

NDC primaries

Turning to Saturday's NDC primaries, the President urged the party members to give him absolute endorsement to prove to the NPP that the entire party was behind him to lead the NDC to battle next year.

He also asked them to elect parliamentary candidates who could win their seats.

He told the party members that he was not supporting any of the parliamentary aspirants.

He said the Greater Accra Region was key in the NDC 's quest to win the 2016 elections and therefore called for hard work from all in the party.
