MP commends gov’t for tackling drainage system

Ms Gifty KlenamThe Lower West Akim Member of Parliament (MP), Ms Gifty Klenam, has commended the government for tackling the main drainage system in the central part of the Asamankese town.

She said the construction of a drainage system through the Asamankese town for the stream flowing from Ayensu to pass through Asamankese was commendable.

She, however, appealed to the government to endeavour to complete the entire drainage system, especially  the drainage system at Asamankese Zongo and the Roman Down areas, where she said residents had to relocate whenever it rained.

She pointed out that the major road network connecting the Lower West Akim area to the rest of the Eastern Region were in a bad state and since the area was the centre of the Eastern Region, it was causing a major inconvenience to the travelling public and motorists.

She said for example that the Asamankese/ Suhum trunk road was an alternative road from Suhum to Accra, especially when vehicles wanted to divert their route to Accra.

Equally in a state of disrepair, she said, was the Asamankese-Accra road.

She said it was good news when the Minister of Roads and Highways informed her that his tour to inspect roads in the Eastern Region would definitely include the inspection of roads in the Asamankese area which were in fertile farming areas to facilitate the transportation of goods and services to the urban centres.
