The robbers, who wielded knives, inflicted wounds on his forehead and hands before robbing him of GH¢2,800.

The thieves also took away two new laptops and four mobile phones belonging to his children.According to the Sakumono District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Alex Wowolo, the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. when the four knife-wielding men took advantage of the poor security system in the house to carry out the raid.

The assailants, he said, made away with their booty before the MP and his family could make any contact with the police.

Mr Wowolo told the Daily Graphic that the MP, who sustained the injuries after struggling with the assailants, was receiving treatment at the C&J Hospital at Sakumono.

He also said the assailants might have trailed the MP for the past few days because of a new vehicle he had acquired recently and added that although no arrests had been made, the police had intensified their investigations in their quest to bring the assailants to book.

The MP, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic in a telephone conversation, said he was asleep when he heard his bedroom door being opened.

According to him, when he woke up, he saw four young men wielding knives. They ordered him to surrender all the money he had.

“When I resisted, they pounced on me, prompting me to engage them in a struggle. I later fell unconscious and only woke up to realise they had made away with the money, my mobile phone, those of my children, as well the two new laptops I purchased some few days ago,” Mr Ofori said.

He said his family, on the other hand, escaped unhurt as they were asleep in separate bedrooms at the time of the incident.

Mr Joseph Kwadwo Ofori is an independent MP, but sits with the Majority in Parliament.
