It was a maiden ceremony by the association in the Volta Region, after 35 years of the brutish event in which Mr Justice Fred Poku Sarkodee, Mrs Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addow and Mr Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong were murdered in cold blood on June 30, 1982.

Addressing the remembrance service, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, commended legal practitioners for upholding the tenet of rule of law, adding that without rule of law the nation would not be safe.

He said respect for the judiciary could not be overemphasised because it was a cornerstone for good governance and assured members of the legal profession of adequate protection of exercising their duties without fear and favour.

The Volta Regional President of GBA, Mr Michael Zewu Glover, said the occasion was a reminder of the past and present to stop the menace which was showing signs of resurgence in the country.

He said the murder was a repugnant episode which generated fear in the country and that the bar had mourned the slain judges in the past 33 years and would continue to celebrate them because they were the martyrs of rule of law.

Mr Glover said judges and magistrates were more encouraged and would continue to draw inspiration from the murdered judges for what they stood for.

In a homily, the Central Presbytery Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Rev. Sammy Amoaku, said the ceremony required that judges should forget what was behind them, and forge ahead by taking a lesson and preparing for challenges ahead.

He also said they should use the occasion for thanksgiving to energise the profession as a repository of the rule of law.
