He said this had become necessary since no nation would be able  achieve progress in the midst of chaos, disunity and indiscipline.

Mr Amissah-Arthur gave the advice when he called on the chief and elders of Akyem Asene near Oda in the Eastern Region at the weekend to pay his condolences following the loss of their Krontihene, Nana Opoku Nyarko II.

The Vice-President’s daughter, Mrs Ama Gyasiwaa Opoku-Mensah,  is married to the late Krontihene’s son, Mr Daniel Kwame Opoku-Mensah.

Mr Amissah-Arthur enjoined Ghanaians to mind their language, actions and deeds in order not to do anything to spark off violence  and its attendant problems.

He gave an assurance that the government would distribute the national cake equitably.

In response to an appeal by the Asenehene, Nana Karikari Apau Frimpong,  to the government to establish a senior high school (SHS) at Asene to absorb the large number of junior high school (JHS) graduates who come out every year in the area, the Vice-President promised to grant the request in due course.

Nana Frimpong also urged the government to improve the water system in the town.

The Vice-President’s entourage included the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Mavis Ama Frimpong; the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Miss Ophelia Koomson;  the District Chief Executives (DCEs) for Birim South and Akyemmansa, Nana Baffour Mensah Takyi and Mr Tom Budu, respectively, the Regional Coordinating Director, Mr S. A. Bawah;  the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Yaagy Akuriba, and the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo-Peprah.

A former Minister of Education, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, who read a tribute on behalf of the close associates of the late Nana Opoku Nyarko, described him as someone who was God-fearing, respectful, humble and very intelligent.

He advised the people to bury their differences and work in unity to develop the town.
